College Scholarships

The following scholarships have been instituted with the view of encouraging students to strive for the best in academic and non-academic arenas. There is no need to apply to these scholarships. The scholarship committee disperse the scholarships given below to the eligible candidates as per the criteria for each.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

MAR THOMA DIONYSIUS ENDOWMENT
Instituted by the Puthenparampil family, this endowment distributes interest from a Rs. 20,000 deposit equally among final-year degree students in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Commerce, English, and Economics who secure the highest marks.
KANIANTHARA KUDUMBAM PRIZE
Established by Kanianthara Kudumbam in honor of H.G. Job Mar Philoxenos, this prize awards the interest from Rs. 10,000 annually to the col¬lege’s best all-rounder.
PTA SCHOLARSHIP
Awarded to meritorious students who achieve the highest marks in each undergraduate subject and in each UG and PG class. Winners receive cash prizes and merit certificates.
H.H. MORAN MAR BASELIOS MARTHOMA DIDYMUSI MEMORIAL PRIZE
In memory of H.H. Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Didymus – 1, this prize, instituted by Dr. Soosy Kuryan (former Principal and Physics H.o.D), awards the interest from Rs. 10,000 to the best PG student.
VERY REV. C. I. GEEVARGHESE REMBAN SCHOLARSHIP
Instituted by Mr. Samkutty K. in honor of Very Rev. C.I. Geevarghese Remban, this scholarship awards the interest from Rs. 25,000 to the current PG topper based on merit-cum-means.
Dr. P. M. KOSHY ENDOWMENT FOR BEST PG DISSERTATION
Founded by Dr. P. M. Koshy, former Principal of St. Stephen’s College, this endowment annually recognizes the best postgraduate project from each department.

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

BOTANY FACULTY RETIREMENT ENDOWMENT
The endowment was set up by Ms. Annamma Alex, Ms. Rajani. P. George, Dr. Rajan Idicula and Mr. K. Varughese, former faculty members of the department of botany, on their retirement. The interest of Rs. 10000/- is given to the top scorer in Final year U.G Botany.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

PROF. ANNIE NINAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is instituted by the final year B.Sc. Chemistry students of 2012-2013 batch, in memory of their beloved teacher, Ms. Annie Ninan, Associate Professor of Chemistry, who passed away on 30th August 2012. An amount of Rs. 10,501/-has been deposited as fixed deposit, the interest of which will be awarded to the top-scorer of final year B.Sc. Chemistry with effect from 2013.
PROF. C.P. KRISHNA PILLAI ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP
This endowment is instituted by Prof. Dr. P. Viswanathan P.O., Nair, Sreeparvathi Royal Gardens, Mangad, Tirumala Thiruvananthapuram 695006, former student (1965-67) and faculty member (1981-89), Department of Chemistry, St. Stephen’s college as a token of honour to his respected teacher Prof. C.P. Krishna Pillai, former Head, Department of Chemistry (1964-90), St. Stephen’s College, Maloor, Pathanapuram. A sum of Rs. 1,20,000/- is de­posited as fixed deposit in Indian Bank under joint account of the Principal and Head of the Dept. of Chemistry. From its interest a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- is given every year to the student who secures highest marks in the final semes­ter B.Sc. Chemistry examination and has also been declared as passed by the University.
PROF. ANNIE NINAN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND
A fixed deposit amount of Rs. 50,000/- is instituted by faculty members of Chemistry (2013-14), St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram in memory of Late Prof. Annie Ninan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Chemistry and is joint­ly operated by the Principal and Head of the Department of Chemistry. The interest from the endowment fund is utilized annually for conducting an inter department quiz competition.
ALEXANDER VARGHESE VAIDYAN MEMORIAL ENDOW­MENT FUND
A fixed deposit amount of Rs. 1,10,000/- is instituted by the faculty members of Chemistry (2013-14), in memory of Late Dr. Alexander Varghese Vaidyan, Associate Professor, Dept. of Chemistry and his parents Late Mr. K.G. Varghese and Mrs. Kunjannamma Varghese, Palavila Ancy Bhavan, The­ valakkara, Kollam and is jointly operated by the Principal and the Head of the Department. of Chemistry. The interest from the endowment fund shall be utilized annually for cash awards to meritorious final year Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate students in Chemistry.
HONY.CAPT. P.G. DANIEL MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND
This Endowment is instituted by Dr. Varughese P. Daniel, former stu­dent (1976-1978), faculty member of the Department of Chemistry (1984- 2014) and also the Principal (2014-2017) of St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapu­ram, in memory of his father, Late Hony. Capt. P.G. Daniel, Plavilayil Puthen Veedu, Kizhavalloor P.O., Konny, Pathanamthitta District. An amount of Rs. 1,000/- is given as charity to an economically backward student from each De­partment of the college every year. The Principal files the details of the benefi­ciaries and informs the sponsor every year. Their names will not be announced in the Merit Day function celebrations.
PROF. GEETHA ANNIE GEORGE ENDOWMENT
This endowment of Rs. 50,000/- is instituted by Prof. Geetha Annie George, Former Head of the Department of Chemistry in memory of her par­ents late A.K. George and Susan George, Ayrookuzhiyil. The interest from the deposit is awarded as scholarship annually to one of the best outgoing students of B.Sc. Chemistry on the basis of merit cum-means.
ABINI VISWANATH MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT FUND
Abini Viswanath, Sree Vihar, Stadium Junction, Koodal PO., Pathana­mthitta District, was a student of St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram for B.Sc. Chemistry (1996-1999) and M.Sc. Chemistry (1999-2001) courses. She was very smart, hardworking and a loving student but unfortunately, she passed away in her early stage on 07.11.2020 while working as a teacher in New Horizon School in Bahrain. To commemorate her memory, B.Sc. classmates collected a sum of Rs.60,000/- and is deposited as fixed deposit in Indian Bank, Pattazhy Vadakkekara branch, jointly operated by the Principal and Head of the dept. of Chemistry. The annual interest accrued for the FD will be given as scholarship to the top scorer in B.Sc. Chemistry on the basis of merit-cum-means in every academic year w.e.f. 2022-2023
Dr.SUSAN JOSEPH ENDOWMENT
The endowment is instituted by Dr.Susan Joseph, former Head of Chemis­try department St.Stephens’ College.The endowment is in memory of her father late Mr. K.I.Joseph,Kalikaran Parampil,Kizhakkumbhagom, Niranam, Tiruvalla .An amount of Rs.five thousand is annually awarded as scholarship to any needy intelligent student of BSc.Chemistry fifth semester .
Endowment of Remembrance
The Department of Chemistry has instituted a set of memori­al scholarships under the “Endowment of Remembrance” in honor of three former students-Deepu Bhanu (M.Sc.Chemistry, 2016–2018), Libin Thomas (M.Sc. Chemistry, 2013–2015), and Shani Mary Sam (B.Sc. Chemistry, 2014– 2017)—whose memory continues to inspire both teachers and students. Es­tablished by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry from the academic year 2025–2026, each scholarship carries a cash prize of Rs.1,000/- and aims to encourage academic excellence while supporting deserving students. The scholarships are as follows: Deepu Bhanu Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the meritorious final-year postgraduate student in Chemistry; Libin Thomas Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a final-year postgraduate student in Chem­istry on a merit-cum-means basis; and Shani Mary Sam Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a final-year undergraduate student in Chemistry on a merit-cum-means basis.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

EXCELLENCE IN COMMERCE AWARD
This award is instituted by faculty members of Department of Com­merce to appreciate and honor the Top scorer in B.Com Finance course every academic year. It is introduced from the year 2022-2023 and carries a sum of Rs.1000/-
PROF. GEORGE DANIEL FUND
This Fund is provided by the Former Head and Faculty member of Commerce, Mr. George Daniel to honor the first two top scorers in B.com Finance. The award carries a sum of Rs.2500/-

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

VERY REV. C.T. ISSAC REMBAN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
The Endowment is instituted in memory of Very Rev. C. T. Issac Rem­ban (Mount Tabor Diara, Pathanapuram) by Mr. P. C. Mathew, Retired Se­nior Superintendent of our College. The interest from Rs. 20,000/- is given as scholarship to the highest scoring student who is the ward of a member of Non-Teaching Staff. In the absence of the ward the scholarship is awarded to the top scorer among Final Year B.A. English Language and Literature stu­dents.
EXCELLENCE IN ENGLISH AWARD
This award is instituted by Mr. Jacob Thomas, Former Head, Depart­ment of English to honour the top scorer in B.A English class every academic year. The award carries a sum of Rs. 1000/-
PM KURIAKOSE ENDOWMENT
An endowment of 1,00,000 has been instituted by P.M Kuriakose. The interest accrued from this deposit will be awarded annually to one of the best outgoing students from the Department of English, who has demonstrated academic ex­cellence while facing financial hardship.

DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

EXCELLENCE IN ECONOMICS AWARD
This award is instituted by the Department of Economics to appreciate and honor the Top scorer in B. A. Economics course every academic year. It was introduced from the year 2022-2023 and carries a sum of Rs.500/-

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

EXCELLENCE IN MATHEMATICS AWARD
This award is instituted by Rev. Dr. Koshy N. J., Former Head, De­partment of Mathematics to honour the top scorer in M.Sc. Mathematics and the deserving economically backward in the ratio 2:1 from the interest created from the fixed deposit of the sum of Rs.50000/-
MADHAVA MATHEMATICS MERIT SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship scheme is instituted by the faculty of the department of Mathematics from the academic year 2022-2023. The scholarships are award­ed to the recipients under the following categories: –
1) The class toppers of each class in B.Sc Mathematics 2) The class toppers of each class in B.Sc Mathematics based on merit-cum- means criteria. 3) The class toppers of each class based on merit-cum-means criteria in M.Sc Mathematics. The scholarship is an amount of Rs.2000/- for each student.
PROF. M. G. MARIAMMA RETIREMENT ENDOWMENT
This award is constituted by Prof. M. G. Mariamma, former Head of the department of Mathematics, for the Top scorer of Final year B. Sc. Mathe­matics. An amount of Rs. 7500/- has been deposited as Fixed Amount and an interest of which will be awarded to the student every year.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

PROF. JOHN C. KURIAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This is instituted by the Department of Physics in memory of late Prof. John C. Kurian and is awarded to the best outgoing B.Sc. (Physics) student who secures the highest marks in the final year degree examination. An amount of Rs.5,000/- has been donated by the teaching staff of Physics Department, the interest of the amount is to be given to the student.
REV. FR. K.A. ABRAHAM ENDOWMENT
This endowment is instituted by Dr. Jose P. Abraham former faculty member, Dept. of Physics in honour of Rev. Fr. K.A. Abraham, former Man­ager and Syndicate Member (Kerala University) for his services and concern for the department. The amount accrued as interest from Rs. 20,000/- will be awarded annually to the outgoing student of B.Sc. Physics on the basis of merit-cum-means.
BABY K. PAUL MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
The endowment is instituted in memory of Late Dr. Baby K. Paul (For­mer Principal & Head of the Department of Physics) by his family members. The interest of Rs. 25,000/- will be given as scholarship to the highest scoring economically backward student among first year B.Sc Physics students.
PROF. P.T. GABRIEL MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
The endowment is instituted in memory of Late Professor P.T. Gabriel (Former Faculty, Department of Physics) by his family members. The interest of Rs.25,000/- is given as scholarship to the top scorer among second year B.Sc Physics students.
GEORGE OOMMAN MEMORIAL ENDOWMENT
The endowment is instituted in memory of Late George Oomman, Mel­athil House, Pattazhy, by his son, Retired Professor G. Rajan (Former HOD, Department of Physics, St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram). The interest of Rs. 10,000/- will be given as scholarship to the top scorer among final year B.Sc. Physics students. ENDOWMENT FOR ECONOMICALLY BACKWARD STUDENT
The endowment is instituted by a former faculty member of the De­partment of Physics. The interest of Rs.10,000/- is given as scholarship to the highest scoring economically backward student in first year M.Sc Physics.
PROF. P. K. THOMAS VAIDYAN ENDOWMENT
Scholarship is instituted in memory of Late Prof. P. К. Thomas Vaidyan (Former Head of the Department of Physics) by his family. The interest of Rs. 20,000/- is awarded to the top scorer among Second Year B.Sc. Physics students.
VERY REV. T.M. SAMUEL REMBAN MEMORIAL LECTURE
The Lecture is instituted by Mr. Jacob Thomas (Muttatheril House, Avaneeswaram) Former Head of the Department of Physics, in fond memory of Late Very Rev. T.M. Samuel Remban, his mentor and former member of Mount Tabor Diara, Pathanapuram. An amount of Rs. 1,00,000/- is deposited as principal. The interest of the same is utilized every two years for conducting a two-day National Lecture Series on Physics under the auspices of the Depart­ment of Physics. The Lecture shall be held in October as part of the Depart­ment’s Space Week celebrations. It shall be of academic relevance to the U.G. and P.G. students of Physics under the University of Kerala. The details of the same shall be filed in the Department and intimated to the institutor. If under any circumstance, the Department fails to conduct the Lecture in its due time, the principal amount shall be refunded to the institutor or his family.
P.K. PARAMESWARAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
An amount of Rs.50000/- has been donated by the First batch (1972-82) B.Sc. Physics students. The interest of the amount will be awarded annually to two best students (one from U.G and other from P.G) of the Physics depart­ment.
BABY K. PAUL MEMORIAL INTERCOLLEGIATE QUIZ COM­PETITION IN SCIENCE
The Quiz competition is instituted by Dr. Achamma George, former student (1977-82), faculty member of the Dept. of Physics (1985-2017) and also the Principal (2017-2019) of St. Stephen’s College, Pathanapuram in fond memory of Late Dr. Baby K Paul her respected teacher, former HOD of Phys­ics and Principal of the college. A sum of Rs.1,00,000/- is deposited as fixed deposit under the joint account of Principal and Head, Physics Department. The interest of the same is utilized every two years for the conduct of inter­collegiate quiz competition in science under the auspicious of Department of Physics. The competition shall be held in February as part of National Science Day celebrations. If under any circumstances, the department fails to conduct the programme in its due time, the principal amount shall be refunded to the institutor or her family.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY

DR. C.P. JOSHUA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is instituted by Dr. Neena Suzan Joshua in memory of Dr. C. P. Joshua and is awarded to the Top Scorer in the Zoology Post Graduate Examination.
P.M. OOMMEN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The endowment of Rs 50,000/- is instituted by Dr. Neena Suzzan Josh­ua, former head of the Zoology department in fond memory of her father Dr. C.P. Joshua and her husband late P.M. Oommen. The interest from the deposit may be awarded to the topper in P.G and U.G of the Department of Zoology.
