Academic

The department offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate Program in Chemistry.

This includes:

  • Core course in Chemistry
  • Complementary Course in Chemistry (for Zoology, Botany and Physics Main)
  • Open course in Chemistry
  • Extension activities

B.Sc. Chemistry:

This is an undergraduate program. The B.Sc. Degree Programme in Chemistry covers three academic years consisting of six semesters and aims to provide the students with an in-depth understanding of and training in chemical sciences. The syllabus is based on an interdisciplinary approach and is infused with experimental science, providing due importance to the development of laboratory and instrumentation skills. It attempts to provide a detailed knowledge of the terms, concepts, methods, principles and experimental techniques of chemistry. This course renders unique application-oriented laboratory exercises, designed to enable students acquire the skills essential to pursue successful professional careers in teaching, research or industry.

The Degree programme in Chemistry comprises of fourteen core courses, one project course, two elective courses, one core-specific foundation course in addition to one area-specific foundation course, the complementary courses and language courses. Among the two open/elective courses, the one offered in the fifth semester is open to students from other Majors.

Eligibility: The minimum eligibility for pursuing this course is an intermediate 10+2 in Science with Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics/Biology and English as compulsory subjects. Students must have secured good percentage of marks in their 10+2 examination

M.Sc. Chemistry:

This is a post graduate chemistry course. The PG programmes will extend over a period of two academic years comprising of four semesters, each of 450 hours in 18 weeks duration. The course imparts knowledge on the fundamental principles of several branches in Chemistry. It covers the basic knowledge of various specializations like Quantum Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Group theory, Electrochemistry, Nuclear chemistry, Coordination chemistry and Solid StateChemistry

Eligibility: The candidate must have passed B.Sc. Chemistry with 50% or above marks in aggregate.

Complementary Courses:

The Department offers complementary courses for B.Sc Physics, B.Sc Zoology and B.Sc Botany in the first four semesters of these courses.

Open Course:

We provide an open course for all degree students in their fifth semester of their courses.

Extension Activities:

In connection with Environmental day, Department of Chemistry used to organize hands on training programme on paper bag making during the month of June in every year to the local public and the students of the college
