The Department of Commerce was established in 1998 following the introduction of degree course in commerce. Ever since its inspection, the department has earnestly endeavored to achieve the lofty objectives of its establishment making maximum use of the available resources.
The department is an undergraduate department with B.com Travel and Tourism as its course. The programme is designed with the objective of equipping the students to cope with the challenges and changes in the industrial and business world. The course of study shall extent over three years and comprising of thirteen compulsory subjects and an optional subject with two papers.
From 2010 onwards as per the regulations of the University of Kerala, semester system is introduced for the Degree course and the programme is called First Degree Programme in Commerce-Choice Based Credit and Semester System. The course contain six semesters having duration of 3 years. Core Courses include 16 compulsory courses in the major subject and complementary courses include 4 courses in the allied subjects.
From 2019 onwards the Department had changed its elective subject from Travel and tourism to Finance owing to the growing importance of the subject among commerce students.
