NSS

The National Service Scheme is an all India scheme initiated by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs. It is established to create strong social awareness among students. It helps to develop the personality of its members through study and work camps, social service activities and other useful and productive programmes. Active members who participate in the ten day special camping programmes are awarded grace mark for admission to higher courses. The scheme is voluntary and selective. The scheme is expected to inculcate among the students an urge to participate in Nation building activities. It also provides a creative outlet for their energy. At present there are two units of N.S.S. in our college, each unit consisting of 100 volunteers.

HISTORY OF NSS

The National Service Scheme owes its origin to the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, who believed that the first duty of the students was not to treat their period of study as an opportunity for intellectual luxury, but to prepare themselves for final dedication in the service of society. In the post-independence era, the University Grants Commission headed by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan recommended introduction of National Service Scheme in the academic institutions on a voluntary basis with a view to developing healthy contacts between the students and teachers on the one hand and establishing a constructive linkage between the campus and the community on the other hand.

NSS MOTTO

The motto of NSS is ‘NOT Me But You’. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings..
