Rock Museum

The Rock Museum of the Postgraduate & Research Department of Chemistry is a unique academic facility established to promote experiential learning in the Earth and Materials Sciences. The museum houses a rich collection of more than 125 specimens of rocks, minerals, ores, crystals, gemstones, and industrial minerals, providing students with an excellent opportunity to explore the diversity of naturally occurring materials in their original form. The exhibits include economically important minerals such as ilmenite, rutile, zircon, sillimanite, quartz, feldspar, mica, magnetite, bauxite, limestone, and gypsum. Designed as an interactive learning resource, the museum bridges classroom concepts with real-world applications in chemistry, geology, environmental science and materials science. It serves as a valuable platform for practical learning, research, school outreach programs, and scientific exhibitions, inspiring students to appreciate the role of minerals and natural resources in sustainable development, industry, and everyday life. The Rock Museum reflects the Department’s commitment to innovation in science education by providing hands-on learning experiences beyond conventional laboratories.
