The college is affiliated to the University of Kerala and was upgraded in 1978
St. Stephen’s College was founded in 1964 after the name of St. Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity. The college was the fulfilment of a long cherished desire of its founder, His Grace The Most Rev. Mar Thoma Dionysius. The college was formally declared open by His Holiness Mar Baselios Augen of the East on 8th July 1964. In 1968 the College was shifted to its present site, in the serene village of Maloor, 6 kms away from Pathanapuram.
Our College is named after St. Stephen (1st Century), one of the first seven ordained Deacons and the first Martyr of Christianity.
The life of His Grace Mar Thoma Dionysius is a source of inspiration for all of us in the family of Mount Tabor. His Grace was a pioneer in the educational field of Kerala.
His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Didymus I (born 29 October 1920) was enthroned Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan (Malankara Orthodox Church) on 31 October 2005. H.H Didymos I was consecrated as Bishop on 24 August 1966 and has been serving as Metropolitan of the Malabar Diocese of the church. He is the seventh Catholicos sincethe Catholicate of the East was relocated to India and 111th in the lineage of Catholicose of the East in the Apostolic throne of St. Thomas. HH is also the19th Malankara Metropolitan of the Church.).
